Slow Emulation!
%AM, %b %America/Chicago %2007, %R TechnologyAfter my hard drive crashed last summer, I did not bother reinstalling virtual PC on my powerbook. I took the utilitarian approach to this matter: my Windows XP virtual machine took up at least 3 gigabytes of my hard drive space, and emulation (as is expected!) is never going to be on par with running an OS or application on an actual x86 machine.
I had to return the work laptop (a slow Dell D600) because I wasn't using it for work-work but rather to improve my skill sets (by taking an object oriented systems class and learning more about ASP, C# and Visual Studio). Anyway - with three weeks left in the semester I am left without a development platform! yikes! I pulled off my dusty (achoo!) copy of Virtual PC, Windows XP, and visual studio 2005, and commenced the installation procedure last night I was done with windows after 2 hours of installation (including service packs), and I started installing studio 2005. The installer is still running!
To be fair, when I installed Visual Studio 2005 on the D600, it took just as long. I just hope that it's not too slow when it comes time to run it in order to continue the development of my semester project.
