I have to admit that I've been warming up to Windows these past few years. I really disliked everything before Vista.  I don't know if it's a sign of a maturing computer user (less dogmatic) or if Microsoft is pushing out a better product (or both?), but one thing is certain, with each release of Windows there has been more incentive to use it.  Having a Mac that is able to run both operating systems seamlessly does help ;-)

The other day I saw a promo video for Windows 8 and I have to say that I am really liking the Metro UI -like nature of WIndows 8. Metro UI is what they use in their Windows Phone product line.  Looking at this video I can really see (I think) where Microsoft is going with a potential Windows tablet (the irony here is that this new UI has no Windows!).  Sure old applications designed for Windows 7 and bellow will run and you will still have a desktop; after all it is inconvenient (and probably not great from an ergonomic point of view) to have to reach up and touch your desktop's monitor all the time.  Even with a laptop it would become cumbersome depending on your positioning.

The thing that comes to mind is a concept once proposed for the Mac.  You would have an iPad (or iPad like device) that would dock into an iMac type device.  Once docked you'd have access to additional storage, wired network, and a full MacOS, in addition to a bigger screen, keyboard and mouse.  When you're on the go, you can just use iOS. Applications could be "fat" application that have both a MacOS and an iOS counterpart so that you can use the application no matter whether you are docked or not.  If you're not docked the applications could be invisible.  OK, I am adding in detail here that wasn't in the original blog post (wherever I saw it), but the concept of the portable computer brought to the table by OQO so many years ago can potentially be realized by Windows 8.
