Defiance 2050 was essentially a port of the original Defiance MMO which launched back in 2013 for the PC, xbox360, and PS4. The port brought it to Xbox One and PS5, and there was a new PC client.  In all honesty, I preferred the original.  In the original Trion (the original developers) at least attempted to keep the game/universe lore going by releasing the Alcatraz expansion. It's been a few years since I played the original, but that story revolved around some group of monastic Votans and technology.  I don't think the story was ever resolved, but kudos for trying.  In comparison, 2050 came up with an new enemy type, called "the Grid" which is basically rampant EGO units...  I thought the Vulge were hard enough (so I avoided them), but the Grid were even harder - at least for a casual player like me. The Grid are described as follows by the game guide: "The Grid appeared first in Silicon Valley. They are an aggressive force of EGO constructs that are able to infect cybernetics and control the individual attached. They can also manifest as hard-light entities once the host is killed, or operate independently of a host all together. They possess devastating energy weaponry and their true goals remain a mystery." I guess the game already had biological-based zombie/parasitic organisms, and we'd seen the mechanical version of this in "the scrappers", so it felt like the Grid (an in-between) was sort of an unnecessary enemy.

And so goes the final vestige of a once-great show 🙄. From what I remember, they were trying to do the transmedia storytelling thing, so I am surprised that they did not launch any novels or comic books back in the day.  I suppose I should start writing my own fan-fiction now.
