I guess the Salem Police also got into it for April Fools.

It does make me wonder...what would a Police Pigeon actually do 🤔

Missing Police Pigeon

For the past 10 years, the police department has maintained a flock of twenty-five pigeons in a heated and air-conditioned loft atop the police station.  The hobby flock is trained and looked after by Lieutenant John Audubon, who reported that “Sweetiepie” was missing at this morning’s rollcall.

Sweetiepie’s normal haunt is the City Hall and Essex Street Pedestrian Mall area, and it is believed she may be found in that vicinity.  

All Patrol Division units have been instructed to be-on-the-lookout for Sweetiepie and to notify Lieutenant Audubon if located.  

The public’s assistance is requested in locating Sweetiepie. 

Breadcrumbs are used as a reward and Sweetiepie has been trained to respond to her name.  Individuals interested in bringing Sweetiepie back to the fold should meet Lieutenant Audubon at the Almy’s Clock on the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall today, Wednesday, April 1st, at noon.  

Volunteer searchers will be requested to loudly shout Sweetiepie’s name and wave their arms in imitation of a bird in flight. Breadcrumbs will be provided as an enticement.   

Description: plump with small blue/gray head and straight, thin bill.  Gray back with two black bars on the wings. Easily bonds with other pigeons.  Answers to the name of “Sweetiepie”.  Missing since April 1st 2026
