Alright, with April Fool's behind us, this week (and maybe part of next week) will be a roundup of posts and fake products that were announced yesterday.  To kick things off, here is a post from the City of Salem, about reincorporating territories that spun off from the original Salem.

City of Salem Announces Historic Reincorporation of Original Territories

REUNIFIED SALEM, MA — In a stunning development coinciding with the city's 400th anniversary celebrations, Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo today announced an ambitious move reclaiming all territories that were originally part of Salem's 1626 settlement.

"As we celebrate four centuries of Salem's rich history, we've decided it's time to reunite the family," said Mayor Pangallo at a surprise press conference held at midnight at Endicott Park in the neighborhood of Danvers. 

The initiative, dubbed "Salem Reunification," will officially reincorporate Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, Marblehead, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and portions of Wenham and Topsfield back into Salem proper. The plan is scheduled to take effect immediately, with new "Welcome to Salem" signs being installed at the expanded city limits today.

Beverly, who has been pretending to celebrate their own 400th anniversary celebrations, were reportedly caught off guard by the announcement. "We just spent a bundle on 'Beverly 400' merchandise," said one disgruntled official from Beverly who did not wish to be named. "I guess we'll have to add 'A Neighborhood of Salem' stickers to everything now.”

To celebrate Salem Reunification, all residents of the newly reincorporated territories will receive complementary, “I ❤️ Chicken Nugget” t-shirts and, for residents of the Marblehead neighborhood, a free “Yes in My Backyard” bumper sticker. Additionally, the entire expanded region will observe a mandatory Halloween season from September 1 through November 30. Full size candy bars only.

"This bold move is really just correcting a historical oversight," explained a Salem historian who definitely wished to remain anonymous. "These areas have been experiencing an identity crisis for the past 350 years. It's time they came home."

When questioned about the legality of such a municipal annexation, the Salem City Solicitor cited an obscure 17th century bylaw that grants Salem the right to "claim dominion over any settlement once designated as ‘Salem’ should Judgment Day or April Fools' Day arrive."
