Back in 2006 there was a new show on TV which was good (which means that it was cancelled - HA!), called Jericho.  It was an action, mystery, drama type of show where a number of nuclear devices were detonated (simultaneously I think) throughout the continental US. Since the seat of government, DC, was destroyed there was some understandable chaos.  What emerged were the Allied States of America (ASA) which was the states west of the Mississippi river, the United States, on the east of the river, and the Republic of Texas....because...you know... Texas.

In any case the show was cancelled after the first season ended.  Then after a successful NUTS campaign, where fans sent peanuts to CBS (NUTS = not understanding terms of surrender, which is what season 1 ended with), CBS renewed it for a 7-episode run in season 2 to wrap up the story.  The story ended. It was an OK ending, but there was obviously more story to tell.

The comic books did pick up with Season 3 (6 comic books) and season 4 (5 comic books) being produced.  Season 5 is rumored to be in development, and I hope it is because season 4 actually ended in a cliffhanger. Argh!

The ultimate moral of the story (as far as I can tell) is about the evils of corporatism and private military contractors.

Ultimately I liked this story, but I hate being left on a cliffhanger (with the release of a season 5 looking unlikely to me).  I was hoping that by reading the comics I'd have a sense of closure for this series, but I guess I will be waiting to see what happens now.
